CLIENT REQUIRING AN AU PAIR

Tutor Box’s objective is to run an efficient service in order to provide in-home childcare to families. Our Au Pairs have Matric (or the equivalent), a driver’s licence, and many have or are working towards tertiary education qualifications. Our Au Pairs usually drive their own vehicles. The Au Pairs’ duties and times can be tailored to your specific needs, i.e. either live-in with the family, or live-out, work a full day or maybe mornings / afternoons only. The Au Pair can also stay at your house (day and night), looking after your children while you are away. Duties can include fetching the children from school, supervising homework, taking children to extra-murals, preparing the children’s meals, shopping etc.

Through years of experience in au pairing and education both in South Africa and in the UK, the members of Tutor Box recognise the importance of catering for the child’s individual needs on a one-to-one basis. Tutor Box also believes that confidence is the key to success and therefore places equal emphasis on taking care of the child as well as developing the child’s confidence.

A professional Au Pair is someone who:
  • is trained and qualified to care for children
  • is able to take sole charge of the children
  • does not do housework unless it is with regard to the children
  • may live in or live out
  • takes meals with the children when on duty
  • organises and carries out the children's daily routine
  • provides stimulating educational activities appropriate to the age of the children in her care
  • may carry out household management tasks e.g. grocery shopping, paying bills, menu planning etc.
  • has driver's licence and own car

Tutor Box places only the very best Au Pairs. Our Au Pairs are screened in various ways to ensure their suitability for private childcare work and all Au Pairs have to provide at least two childcare references.

An effective Au Pair candidate must be at least 18 years of age, must have completed high school or the equivalent and be in good health. Tutor Box respects that training and experience varies widely among Au Pairs but a genuine respect for, ability with and devotion to children is considered essential by Tutor Box.

Please fill out this form if you are interested in using Tutor Box to provide your au pairing needs or alternatively call Tutor Box on (011) 450-4528 to make an appointment. There is a once-off registration fee of R280 (ex VAT).

After your appointment with Tutor Box, where details of your precise childcare needs will be taken, you will be given details of suitable, available au pairs.

Tutor Box Procedure

Tutor Box will set up interviews between suitable au pairs and the client. Once an au pair has been selected, Tutor Box must receive the Terms and Conditions and confirmation slip of the details agreed upon. These documents can be faxed to (011) 450 1112.

Tutor Box offers a follow-up service and will provide back up and support by telephoning you frequently to see if you are happy with the childcare being provided.

Childcare is very flexible. The Au Pair can work for as many hours as needed. There are four options for an Au Pair placement.

  • The first option is an annual placement fee equivalent 10% (ten percent) plus VAT of the Au Pair’s annual remuneration package, renewable annually.
  • The client can also opt for a once-off placement fee which is 15% (fifteen percent) plus VAT of the au pair’s annual remuneration package.

In both cases, the Client pays the Au Pair an agreed upon monthly salary. There is a three-tier guarantee for this option – please see Terms and Conditions for more information.

Another payment option is a monthly billing, which allows more flexibility for the client. There is no placement fee and Tutor Box pays the Au Pair. The client pays Tutor Box directly on invoice, every month-end. Tutor Box takes a small commission of the Au Pair’s salary and charges the Client a monthly admin fee of R95 (ex VAT) for this service.

The fourth option is a temporary or fixed term period contract, where the client pays the candidate a set monthly salary and Tutor Box takes a placement fee equal to 30% of the candidate’s remuneration package for that temporary fixed term period.

Tutor Box handles all payments of Temporary or Semi-Permanent placements.

Invoices will be sent to Clients on the last day of every month or as permanent placements commence. Payments are to be made in full within seven (7) working days for the previous month’s childcare.

Payments must be paid directly into our bank account (please fax or email proof of payment) or cash payments may be made directly to Tutor Box’s Office.

Please remember to put your name or invoice number as a reference.

One month’s notice to Tutor Box is required, should you wish to discontinue your childcare for whatever reason.
