Tutor Box has a variety of positions for tutors and whilst we prefer to use qualified teachers, there are often vacancies for university students with tutoring experience and graduates in specialised subjects. In order to maintain the reputation of the agency, all tutors should have received an “A” symbol in the subjects they wish to tutor. They must also be working towards or have a degree or equivalent qualification, or a certificate from a teacher-training college.
Tutor Box is a professional agency and
expects the tutors it places to conduct themselves in a professional manner
at all times. We only consider the best tutors and charge our clients
competitive rates. They therefore want and deserve the best in both teaching and personal presentation.
Below are some guidelines to help you achieve these aims.
Tutors are asked to dress smartly at all times.
Make sure at your first lesson that you give your telephone number to the learner or the learner’s parent.
If you have to cancel a lesson, ring your learner immediately and arrange an alternative time.
Always arrive punctually at the learner's home, and if for any reason you are going to be late, please inform the learner / parent
Be flexible in your appointments. Though many learners like the regular routine of the same time, or times per week, this is not always convenient, and occasionally alternative times need to be arranged.
The majority of learners will be of school-going age, and their lessons will be paid for by their parents. They should get a full report of their child’s progress at least every four weeks. This can be done verbally.
Do not run your lessons rigidly by the clock. A few extra minutes to complete a topic, finish off an explanation or set homework, are not only essential for good teaching but establish goodwill between you and your client.
If lessons are being given at your home, make sure that they are in a separate, quiet room and that you are not disturbed.
No smoking is permitted during lessons.
Please insure that your cellphone is turned off when you start your lesson.
Please fill out this form if you are interested in registering as a tutor for Tutor Box. If your application is successful, you will be contacted and required to attend an interview.
